How to Upgrade Big-IP F5 load balancer

 We can follow below step-

First we need to verify current version and take backup of F5, also make sure both HA device must sync each other--

I. Preparation Work

1. Check the Current Version To check your current version, login to F5 admin GUI -> System -> General properties

2. Backup F5 Configuration

Login to the F5 GUI -> System -> Archive -> Click on “Create”, which will crate a backup of the current configuration. Click on “download” link next to the backup

Take backup though CLI - 

3 - Download F5 image by F5 support portal, also before download image you need to verify this thought F5 TAC , make sure which version you are going must have support your hardware.

also if you are upgrading any major version , you should need to sync License also. and for minor version no need to upgrade license i.e if you are going to upgrade 15.1.2.1.0 to 15.3.1.x in this case both version belong to 15 version only , so not require license sync ..

but safer side you can this with F5 TAC also.

4- Upload image iso and md5 into F5 --

Login to F5 UI -> System -> Software Management -> Image List -> Import. Click on ‘choose file’ and select the version x.x image file (i.e BIGIP-15.1.2.0.iso ). Click on the ‘Import’ button.

After completing the full upload, you will see a new software in Software Management

Now Select software and install -

This is very important point, make sure you can select disk that is not use by you current image , otherwise if something fail you can not restore .
